Christmas Gingerbread

A Christmas favourite

Ingredients

100 g butter
100 g caster sugar
1 medium egg
230 ml treacle
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 1/2 tsp warm water
450 g plain flour
1 1/2 tsp ginger, ground
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, ground
1/4 tsp salt

Method

Preparation time: ca. 20 min / Cooking / Baking Time: ca. 10 min Resting time: ca. 1 day / Grade of difficulty: easy / Calories per portion: n/a

In large bowl, cream butter, sugar, egg and treacle.

Dissolve bicarbonate of soda in warm water and add to butter mixture. Beat until smooth. Mix in flour, spices and salt until well blended. Cover and chill for 24 hours.

Preheat oven to 180°C and grease baking trays.

Roll out dough to a thickness of 5cm on a floured surface.

Cut out gingerbread men using man-shaped cutters and place 5cm apart on baking trays.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until firm. Let cool on wire racks.

For decoration use Royal Icing for Piping
