Ingredients

550 g flour
1/4 tsp salt
120 g butter
90 g castor sugar
90 g sultanas
1 medium egg
60 ml water
60 ml milk

Method

Preparation time: ca. 20 min / Grade of difficulty: easy / Calories per portion: n/a

Preheat the oven to 150°C.

Combine salt, four and butter and mix until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Mix in the dried fruit and sugar. Add water and milk, then the egg and mix well. Combine both mixtures.

Split into eight round balls and flatten them into the traditional teacake shape. Place on a greased baking tray and bake for 30 minutes.

Alternatively use a loaf tin or a loaf pan and bake for 30-40 minutes.

Remove from the oven, cool on a wire rack.

To serve, slice and spread with butter, jam or honey accompanied by a hot cup of tea.
