Hi all,

recently, I was introduced to this wonderful cheese spread, and I got two glasses of it. I want to use it on sandwiches, or make a pasta sauce from it. I also put it on steamed zucchini - delicious.

Does anybody know it, and how do you use it?

Hi fim,

as far as I know this product comes from the Arab countries, and here in Germany it's available in an Indian / Pakistani supermarket.

Cheers, Dorry

Hi Dorry,

now I wonder - is it this Danish product, or s.th. from the oriental world
- possibly comparable with halloumi?

Cheers, April

Hi,

@April, great, it's the Danish product! And your link explains why I was told it's from the Arab world. It's not comparable with Halloumi - from the look at least, I never tried Halloumi. How would you use it?

@fim, I hope you can try it, it's great!

Cheers, Dorry

My son-in-law is from the Middle East and my daughter has learned lots of the recipes. She makes a good and healthy dessert from Farina and tops it with puck cream and chopped pastachios and when served the person can top it with rosewater which I love but use just a bit. My daughter gets her puck cream from the Middle Eastern store.

Hi Sherry,

thanks for the idea. Does your daughter use puck cream for other dishes, too? We are not too keen on desserts. Would be nice if you (or she) could tell more.

Cheers, Dorry

Hi,
Puck cream cheese spread tastes nice on a toasted bagel, topped with smoked salmon and thinly sliced onions.

Regards,

Puck is produced in Denmark (too hot for dairy cows in Dubai) and widely sold in the Middle East.
One recipe I have been recommended is simply serving it with strawberries (or other fresh fruit) and honey.
I am fairly certain you could also use this as a base for making cheesecakes.
Dorry, if you are looking for something more savoury, you could stir some Puck into risotto to punch up the creaminess and give the dish a rich underbelly, with a hint of sweetness. This works a treat.

Hi Camilarujo,

I saw Puck condensed milk in one of the many Indian/Middle Eastern shops in Tooting last week, so they might well have the cheese spread too. You could try the shops around Peckham/Camberwell/Streatham or Brixton!

I buy it all the time from TFC Turkish Food Supermarket on Ridley Road in Dalston, Hackney. Costs around £1.50 in a glass but you can get a larger jar as well sometimes. I think it's nicer than Dairylea and LAughing Cow and of course cheaper and you get a free glass when you've finished smile.

TFC have shops all over London www.tfcsupermarkets.com/

Here's a photo I took of some Puck on flickr

Happy cooking

Hi Dorry,

Place the slice of bread under a moderately pre-heated grill. Grill until golden on top then flip over and cover the bread in cheese. Grill until melted.

You can also add some slices of tomato during the melting of the cheese.

Another golden oldie, punita!

A quick version is If you cook a small quantity of onion in a microwaveable dish, with a bit of garlic too, then add in a couple of ounces of grated cheddar or other cheese and run for about20 - 30 seconds in the Microwave, then when it has melted, spread over the bread.

A. where is...
