Hi guys,

what's your favourite shape of pasta? I personally like farfalle a lot (butterfly/bow tie shape), but that's just because I think they're pretty laughing . My bf prefers spirelli. He says they soak up more sauce. I used to think it didn't matter that much what the pasta looks like but he actually gets a bit miffed when I cook other shapes. yeah...whateverlaughing out loud

Are there shapes you don't like, and why not? I'm not a big fan of maccaroni (long and hollow) - I always get sauce all over my shirt when I try to eat them gracefully. laughing out loud

CU,

kat

Hi kat,

I like farfalle, too, esp. for salads or with a lot of vegetables and not a lot of sauce.
For carbonara and tomato sauce (thick) we like spaghettini best.

Penne rigate (ribbled?) for arrabiata or cheesy sauces.

Tagliatelle I love, but Mr. Aprilfool doesn't.

Hi there,

I love spaghetti, my husband prefers bavette and linguine.

For salads I use farfalle or penne or mini penne rigate.

And for asian stir-fries, salads and soups are japanese somen noodles really nice. They are very thin, comparable with 'angel hair'. where is...

My husband prevers spirelli too and also means that they soak pretty much sauce. laughing There must be something right.
My favorite is spaghetti and tagliatelli. I love to wrap them around the fork and the feeling they cause in my mouth.

Yeah, spirelli do actually soak up a lot of sauce due to their shape, but that doesn't really matter to me - I eat pasta that comes with a lot of sauce with a spoon oi!

Bolognese and carbonara sauce can ONLY be eaten with spaghetti, though. That's a rule not even my honey disagrees with laughing

Hello!

I guess I'm the boring type but I love spaghetti best oops...blushing I do use other shapes, too, though - namely Penne and Fusilli, too. For pasta bakes I prefer Fusilli or Maccaroni.

I can't say I dislike any particular shape but I least buy Farfalle. They look nice on a plate but I don't get the same joy of eating out of them as I do when I eat spaghetti. Funny huh? oi!

I like spaghetti best if I eat them with sauces. For baked pasta I prefere spirelli.
But its funny, I don't like penne and maccaroni. I have an aunt who hates maccaroni and penne, when she was a child she even refused to eat them BOOOIINNNGG.....
Funny isn't it?

Orichietti, the 'little ears' pasta of southern Italy. It's got a wonderfully rough surface and any sauce will cling to it.

I think I go and cook some right now!

Hi everybody!

I like all kinds of pasta, it all depends on what I am cooking to go along with the pasta. I disagree with kat on the bolognese and spaghetti issue. Have you ever tried your bolognese with fussili, rotini or radiatori? The only dish I HAVE to have spaghetti for is Carbonara.

My husband only likes spaghetti and elbow maccheroni. oi!

Hi Gabi,
elbow maccheroni I had to look up - no miracle, it's the only pasta I don't like.

Hi everybody,
I'm a pasta addict. My favs are spaghetti, farfalle, tagliatelle, linguine, penne.
I don't care very much for cannelloni or those big shell-shaped varieties.

Wholemeal pasta is not exactly my kind of dish.

Once to thrice in autumn we are having a spaghetti pumpkin, that's nice, too.

Hi y'all

I'm finally finished looking through my types of pasta/noodles. Not that I'm a pasta addict, however, I do believe different type of shapes taste different. I have at least 5 'types' of spaghetti: regular spaghetti, spaghetti rigati, thin spaghetti, angel hair and linguine. And about 8 or so other types of 'Italian' type pastas. I also love egg noodles for some of my salads and I always bring special shapes back from Germany. Here in the regular grocery stores you only get egg noodles medium or wide, just a strip of noodle. If you are lucky they'll have some imported ones like stars or alphabet noodles from Germany. And then of course, a collection of Chinese and Japanese noodles.

Bookkeeper,

try looking in Kroger. They have stars & alphabet in their regular sortiment, as well as in their "Private Selection" brand. And I have found imported pasta for really cheap at Big Lots! Last time, I was able to get some wide fetuccine, rolled into little "nests".

Gabi

I did say you can find the stars and/or alphabet noodles at our local grocery stores, sometimes laughing out loud . But those I can always get at our military store. I love the 'fork spaghetti' or 'Pfiffli' egg noodles e.g. Those you don't find here. Btw I got those 'nests', too, at Big Lots a while back.

But what sort of pasta with your Zucchini Pesto, flat round, hollow, short, long, or twirly?

oi! Hi there,

I think that it depends on what exactly you are cooking the pasta with. For me, I prefer spagetti generally with everything as it is so versatile. Except in Salads where I would prefer fussilli with nice golden croutons.
