Che's Chocolate Cupcakes - Halloween Spider
\"external
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder (1 sachet)
1 tsp salt
1 1/3 cup water, sparkling
white chocolate or icing

Beat butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla on high speed for at least 3 minutes. In a second bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Add alternately with water to the creamed mixture. Blend fast until combined. Fill paper lined muffin cups 2/3 full with batter. Bake at 180°C for ~17 to 20 min. Allow to cool before applying the icing.

Put cupcakes on an even surface on a tray or plate. Space them apart to apply icing. Using a frosting cone, apply a thick dot of icing in the middle of each muffin. Draw 8 lines for the legs and tentacles of a spider. Drop a small dot in front of the large one to form the spider's face.

Alternative:
Cover the whole cupcake with orange icing, draw the spider with black chocolate or frosting as a "black spider on an orange". You also can create a spider's web.

I submitted the recipe, but seeing the date, I put it in here as well,
to be in time for Halloween.

Cheers Let´s cook baby! Che

Sounds yum! laughing

We normally go away for a short trip over Halloween - or Samhain as we call it. It's our 'anniversary'. Unfortunately, this year due to stretched finances (bought a house earlier this year) we have decided to stay home. We actually wanted to go to a nice fish restaurant down the road but I have opted to have a takeaway instead and wait for the kiddies to ring our doorbell! laughing There weren't any when we were still living in the city but now in the country I am hoping for a few nice guisers! laughing I'll have a pumpin on the doorstep outstide and a halloween garland above the door. Let's hope there will be some coming round!

Anyway, that recipe would be perfect for a little treat! I'm just not sure if the young ones would appreciate homebaked treats as much as choc bars or so laughing out loud We'd have to eat the cakes all by ourselves in the end, how bad woudl that be?! *gggg*

Hi Ametyst,

if it's like over here, most Mums don't like to bake. Choc bars the kids can help themselves to a go-go at home. So they're rather keen on homemade goodies 'n cookies.
Esp. if those look so revolting...

Hehehehe, I may go for it after all. I should also be able to find some 'spooky' cupcake cases in the shops as well, they're really making the most [money] out of it here laughing out loud And your cakes seem easy enough so that I can do a few trays on Thursday evening without getting too stressed hehe.
