Can anyone give me some advice please?
I have been asked to do a Wedding Dessert table with a two tier wedding cake, cake pops, cookies and cupcakes for 150 guests but have no idea how many of each item to suggest. 150 of everything seems excessive as surely everyone won't have a cupcake, cookie, cakepop and slice of wedding cake? Does the wedding cake still need to feed 150 guests if there are other desserts on offer? Has any one done a dessert table and could help? Thankyou.

Hi Dawn,

That is an interesting question! I suppose it depends on the guests. My young nephew went to a tennis training weekend once and the group of a dozen boys turned up to breakfast and were told it was a "help yourself, eat as much as you want " sitting and they cleaned it out in about fifteen minutes. At the other end, I have seen a group of elderly people who had been very well catered for depart with half the food not touched. You need to get an idea of who the guests are, but I would expect to:
a) have enough wedding cake, even if it is on small pieces, for every body to have a slice - don't forget that whilst some people may not have any, they often want to take a piece away for somebody who was not at the wedding, or may have been unable to come.

b) What else is being served? A sit down meal, a fork buffet, or finger food? How long is it since most people would have last eaten? If the first courses are substantial you can probably cut down to say 60% of each of the cakes, if not, then if you are making the other items, it will depend on the size of them. People will make a judgement and if the cup cakes, cake pops and cookies are small bitesize, they may well take up to one of each, whereas if they are full size maybe only one or two. I should make a test batch and see what they look like on the plate, and whether you feel that if you put two or three on your plate it looked greedy!

Just a few thoughts to take into account - I expect there are some skilled wedding caterers amongst our members who will have some ideas!

Good Luck,

A. (PS. Please email us a slice of the cake! where is... )
